The World’s Toughest Row Begins 12th December

On Sunday 12th December on the island of La Gomera in the Canaries, James Wooley, Taylor Winyard and Tom Rose of Atlantic Nomads will be undertaking something quite incredible.

They will get up early, climb into their rowing boat, aim at the horizon…and start to row. They don’t intend to stop rowing until they reach the Caribbean island of Antigua, some 3000 miles away!

Whilst this in itself is a mind-blowing task, simply getting to the start line has been enormously challenging.

The crew were a four, now they are a trio – they have worked and trained all the way through covid along with all it’s many variants, they have endured early morning training, late night admin, there have been successes and there have been failures. But here they are – at the start line, with an incredible boat, and as an incredible team!

So as they push away from shore, amongst the excitement and amongst the nervousness, there will no doubt also be a huge sigh of relief that they now can just focus on the task. That dream that created a spark in them all that time ago. Rowing the Atlantic Ocean, in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge – the world’s toughest row!

In the first few days the team may struggle to adjust to the gruelling shifts, rowing 24 hours a day, often 2 hours on, 1 hour off. They may also suffer from sea sickness. But as their bodies slowly adjust to the harsh conditions we will watch them slowly but surely powering their way across the ocean.

Check on their progress right here next week.
